A local would-be politician who voiced anti-Semitic opinions online is the man arrested in February for allegedly inciting public hatred.

While Brantford Police declined to release Bory’s name, court documents point to the man and refer to his alleged threats against police, the Jewish community and specific politicians.

In particular, the information filed by police against Bory says that during an online podcast of sorts in February, Bory asked listeners to join him at his residence “with their firearms”.

Bory appeared in court Wednesday, facing three counts of uttering threats, improper storage of ammunition and public incitement of hatred.

It is not the first time Bory has been branded an anti-Semitic.

In 2019, Phil McColeman, then seeking his fourth term as MP for Brantford-Brant, walked out of a candidates’ meeting organized by the Canadian Federation of University Women in Brantford due to Bory’s comments about the Jewish community and immigrants.

Some in the audience also called out Bory for his words. A video of the incident has since been removed from the Internet.

Earlier this year, Bory posted large, professionally finished signs on his front lawn touting his honesty and denouncing Jews, Trudeau and COVID vaccines.

One sign says “2 Years in Prison for not agreeing with Jews is Jewish Bolshevik Supremacy” and includes an equation indicating a belief that Jews are involved in communism and Freemasonry.

He suggested executing employers who forced people to get a COVID vaccine and — wearing camo and standing in front of Canadian flags — he said Pierre Poilievre should be smashed with a sledgehammer and Jews killed.

In response to an online comment, Bory wrote “Canadians can vote with their trigger fingers for freedom.”

Online, Bory sometimes refers to himself as the “future prime minister of Canada” and advocates killing politicians and police officers who ordered mask mandates or signed charges for breaking those mandates.

He also said in February “They’ve made it illegal for me to speak to you without police violence being imposed on me.”

Bory’s lawyer, Ian McCuaig, said Bory did have legal firearms in his home, which were stored appropriately, but he believes the firearms are now in the possession of police.

The lawyer said there have been examples of other bloggers or online voices being detained because the courts believed they would continue to incite hatred through social media.

McCuaig said the Crown is opposing bail but he hoped Bory would be released with, perhaps, some orders to take down his postings and stay off the Internet.

McCuaig has also represented Kevin J. Johnston, an online, anti-Muslim vlogger who ran for mayor in Mississauga and Calgary before being arrested after allegedly trying to flee illegally to the United States. Johnston was ordered to pay $2.5 million in damages for defamation in a civil action brought by a Muslim owner of a restaurant.

Since 2011, Bory has run in several elections, either as an independent or a candidate for the Canadians Choice Party. All of his electioneering has been in Brant except for one run in Haldimand-Norfolk in 2015.
