Yours truly w/Congressman Jack Bergman, fmr 3-star Marine general, Republican, at Ontonagon’s Labor Day parade. (No, he did not know who I was.) I chatted briefly with him and with his very lovely wife, who took this photo. 😉 )
Bergman is the highest-ranking military officer ever in US history to become a congressman. However, a whopping thirteen generals have become president, starting with ol’ George himself. 😉
Bergman he does a great job for vets — and the UP of Michigan has the highest percentage of vets in the entire US.
It also has a 98% white population. 🙂

Vets on parade and all marching well
.One amazing float with a lot of history shows the Marines and a Navy corpsman (medic) raising the flag on Iwo Jima.
These department store mannequins are life-size and wear actual era uniforms. When I was in, we were actually still wearing these, then switched to the big, loose woodsy camouflage pattern.
This plaque in the back of the float explains how a real Marine from Baraga in the UP, George McNeil, who actually fought AT Iwo Jima in 1945 and saw the American flag go up on Mt. Suribachi (as did my own father, Staff Sergeant James Nugent), was so awestruck by the sight that he recreated it as a realistic display as a pure labor of love.
No other race can beat the white male warrior.

Tim Redmond John De Nugent Aufdeutsch I’m glad you’re in a safe area, John.
-
John De Nugent Aufdeutsch Tim Redmond Except I’m never safe.
-
Tim Redmond John De Nugent Aufdeutsch That’s a real shame. At least you have your firearms.
-
John De Nugent Aufdeutsch Tim Redmond Yes, and ready at any time to use them to defend myself.

I am not surprised the enemy is currently harassing and threatening me.
Not only am I getting ready to do this thing, but this is the ideal place to do it.

Yes, in this heavily Finnish-Swedish-German area, we do have people who look like this here.
