Herve Ryssen, the very great author and street activist with whom Margi and I are friends, said that nowadays you cannot call France Gaulish or Keltic any more (“Gaul” is related to the word “Kelt”) but instead France today is basically a Latin country.

When I lived in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, the locals were often quite dark, and ironically the northern Italians who lived in southern France, or, of course, right over the border, were much whiter than them, often manifesting light hair and eyes from both Keltic and Germanic genes.

There are Kelts, Mediterraneans, but also Germanics. The Germanic Franks who migrated into France had a large peasant population with them and the Frankish people occupied much of present day Normandy as well as the northwest area of France but all throughout France too, so French people are a Germano-Celtic-Mediterranean people.
