This NY Times article lays it out — we are heading toward two nations which no longer even speak to one another. And with Big Tech censoring platforms (Google, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc.) right-wingers have migrated to heir own sites and left-wingers are on totally others. There is no more exchang of information, no more middle, and no critical feedback.

We are at the point of two different mental universes. In them, the other guy is evil and the enemy.

Here is the latest anecdote, told by a local businessman, a likable and able fellow whom Margi and I have used many times.

“So my uncle, who was for Trump, drove up from Tennessee for deer camp.”

From Tennessee to the UP is a 900-mile/1450 km drive one-way. Hunters use a cabin (or a mobile home) for daily deer hunting and nightly drinks and partying, a very looked-forward-to event. It is a real manhood ritual and politics never used to ruin it.

“But then he got into it with my father, who is a good guy but totally for Biden and a Democrat. After two days the arguments got so bad that my uncle turned around and drove 900 miles back to Tennessee.”

–food and water

–love and meaning

–a family

–a good job and good wages

–a vacation and some fun in life

–to die when the time comes with your loving kids and grandkids around you.

And that is not too much to ask.

Life was good.
