Fireworks for Marines Canceled to Save Money
Tomorrow millions of Americans will celebrate what remains of our freedom by watching Fourth of July fireworks. But not Marines at Camp Lejeune who have volunteered to lay their lives on the line to defend that freedom:
This year’s fireworks display for Marines at Camp Lejeune has fizzled because of the cost, but the federal government managed to dig up between $60 million and $100 million for President Barack Obama’s weeklong Africa trip, reported the Washington Times. …
Fireworks displays were also cancelled at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina and the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga.
At Camp Lejeune, the fireworks themselves would have cost $25,000. At least the Marines can console themselves that their Commander and Chief and clan have had a high old time in Africa for only 4,000 times as much.
