I can tell you that never experienced our generals as fools. Our officers were ‘an officer and a gentleman’, but if needed, could be hard-hitting and very severe.
When I read about the army of the old decent Germany, it reminded me about our own officers. I can honestly say we absolutely did not have a culture of drugs and sex in the old South Africa, and it was about unheard of in the military. IN fact, things were very prudish in this respect.
