From Habiru to Hebrews: The Roots of the Jewish Tradition

First, this Jew, who moved in 2001 from the US to Israel and now lives in Netanya, identifies himself:
I come from a secular Jewish background, the son of Jewish parents who belonged to the Communist Party during the 1930s.
They left the Party in 1939, around the time of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, and also left each other, getting divorced when I was about two years old.
I was raised in the home of my mother in Washington Heights, a neighborhood in Manhattan which at that time was about half-Jewish. Most of my boyhood friends were Jewish, and so too were most of my mother’s friends, who tended to the same “progressive” point of view as she did.
My father too remained a “progressive”, meaning someone who agreed with many of the positions of the Communist Party without necessarily belonging to it.
So from an early age I received a heavy dose of Jewish secular culture along with a sense of identification with the progressive current in American life.
By the time that I graduated from college in 1958, that current had been very much submerged by the anti-Communism of the 1950s. I decided to go to graduate school and was fortunate enough to be admitted to the history program at Harvard University with a Woodrow Wilson scholarship.
I formed the resolve to specialize in the study of revolutions and wrote my PhD thesis on the subject of the popular organizations in the Paris Commune of 1871.
In 1965 I got a job teaching history at the Washington Square College of New York University, but unfortunately for me, I was even more interested in making revolutions than I was in teaching about them.
My involvement with the radical student movement at NYU led eventually to my participation in the spring of 1970 in the student takeover of the Courant Institute at NYU, a building which housed a huge computer belonging to the Atomic Energy Commission.
To make a long story short, I ended up fired from my job at NYU and sentenced to three months in prison for helping to hold the computer for ransom.

For many decades after the tablets from Tell el-Amarna and elsewhere were first unearthed, no one doubted that they made reference to a people called “Habiru.”
“But we must admit some association between Hebrews and Habiru; linguistic and historical considerations make this inevitable, even though in the light of present-day knowledge we cannot speak with too great certainty concerning that association.”
Biblical scholars are generally agreed as to who the Habiru were, but there is a certain range of opinion as to how they were perceived.
“is pejorative and indicates a violent and criminal act of aggression, and most often the perpetrator of that aggression” [my translation].
This is precisely the conclusion suggested by an article by Nadav Na’aman,
“Habiru-like Bands in the Assyrian Empire and Bands in Biblical Historiography”,
appearing in Volume 1 of his Collected Essays.
In Assyrian inscriptions dating from the 7th and 8th centuries BCE there are references to a group called “urbi” in the Assyrian language.
The meaning of the term has been variously given as “fugitives,” “bandits,” “irregular troops,” “a special type of soldiery” or “elite troops.”
According to Na’aman, the term “urbi” was derived from a verb, “merubu”, which meant “to flee, run away, escape.” Na’aman continued as follows, on page 299:
And Na’aman concludes: “All of these characteristics are typical of the bands of Habiru, which are so well known from late third-and second-millenium BCE ancient Near Eastern documents.
“The important point which emerges from all this is that for the people who wrote and read the texts in which terms like “SA.GAZ” or “Habiru” or “urbi” appear, all of these terms must have had a negative connotation.
Sometimes this connotation became explicit, as in one of the Tell el-Amarna letters, appearing on page 261 of Mercer’s translation, where one Canaanite official says of another that he has become just like the SA.GAZ people, “a runaway dog.”
The Habiru were outlaws by definition since they did not form a part of the established social system and did not consider themselves bound by its laws.
Furthermore, the fact that many of them were fugitive slaves added an additional element of criminality to their image, since in all slave-holding societies, flight from slavery is considered a serious crime, often punishable by death.
To be sure, the Habiru also had the image of constituting a serious military force, but while this might have endeared them to some, for the established social order it was probably just another count in the indictment.
Whether the Habiru themselves felt proud of their outlaw status is hard to say, but the weight of the evidence indicates that proud or not, they were eager to get rid of it.
The best way of finding out how the Habiru felt about being called “Habiru” is by examining how the Hebrews felt about being called “Hebrew.”
All the texts which mention the Habiru were written by others and therefore don’t reflect a Habiru point of view, but the Hebrews had ample opportunity to make their views known.
And the first thing which every Biblical scholar has noticed about the way the term “Hebrew” is used in Tanach [the Old Testament of the Bible] is that it is hardly used at all.
In the whole of Tanach, the term “Hebrew” appears only 33 times. In the Torah, the Hebrews are almost always described as the “sons of Israel” (“b’nei Israel” in Hebrew, usually translated as “children of Israel” or “Israelites”). In the later books of Tanach other terms are used, but hardly ever “Hebrew.”
Moreover, when the term “Hebrew” does appear, it is used in certain specific ways. Nadav Na’aman has probed this issue in depth in his illuminating essay, “Habiru and Hebrews: The Transfer of a Social Term to the Literary Sphere,” appearing in Volume 2 of his Collected Essays.
Like most Biblical scholars, Na’aman doesn’t think that the Hebrews were Habiru, but he has no doubt that the term “Hebrew” was derived from “Habiru.”
He points out, on page 270, that in Tanach, the term “Hebrew” is typically used to describe “Israelites in exceptional circumstancs.” In particular it is used to describe “Israelites migrating to a foreign country” or “Israelites in a position of slavery.”
He adds that the use of the term “Hebrew” is especially prevalent “in the stories of the book of Exodus, in which it is applied to Israelites who were enslaved and exploited by the Egyptians for hard labor.”
And he concludes, on page 271:
“It seems clear that all biblical references to the ‘Hebrews’ reflect some traits borrowed from the image of the second-millenium Habiru.”
A good example of the way the term “Hebrew” is used in Tanach may be found in Chapter 29 of the First Book of Samuel.
After being forced to flee from the territory of “Israel” because of the wrath of king Saul, the future king David has gathered a band of malcontents around him and found refuge among the Philistines.
Now the Philistines are preparing for battle with the forces of King Saul, and David and his band are ready to join them. But the “princes of the Philistines” cry out: “What are these Hebrews doing here?”
Achish, David’s protector among the Philistines, is compelled to send David and his men away, because the other Philistine leaders do not trust him and fear he will join forces with King Saul when the battle is imminent.
The use of the term “Hebrews” in this context may, of course, be understood as a reference to the ethnic group of which David and his men were members; but it also makes perfect sense as a synonym for “Habiru”, implying a ragged band of mercenaries viewed with disdain by most of the Philistine leaders.
It would seem that the authors of Tanach could not help but make occasional use of the term “Hebrew” as a way of adding a note of realism to their story, while at the same time systematically avoiding any explicit identification of the Hebrews as Habiru because it would have conflicted with the ]pious] legend of the “sons of Israel.”
I found in Wikipedia articles on the apiru in English, German and in French, saying clearly that the people whom the Old Testament later on calls “the Jews” (and earlier on called the “Hebrews”) are likely the descendants of the Habirus– and these Habirus or apirus were in actuality a gang of criminals wandering around in the Middle East, outlaws, a horde which already 4,000 years ago was annoying the leaders of the Sumerian empire, and of the Hittite, Egyptian and Assyrian civilizations.

They were the criminals, psychopaths, thieves, murderers, and antisocial elements of Ice Age times.
Either they were killed/executed/lynched by the clan against which they had transgressed, or, in misplaced mercy, they were merely driven away.
Beorg as clan leader confronts a constant troublemaker.
Zia, the proud daughter of Beorg, chews out a lazy, complaining, quarrelsome clansman.
He later commits murder while hungry and then he was exiled. Beorg and the clan drive him off into the forest, giving him only a spear. But if he can hook up with others, he might possibly survive; otherwise he is doomed.
In this documentary film “Ice Age Columbus,” Zia, the chieftain’s daughter in one clan of the Solutreans, now having crossed over to North America along the ice shelf which then was extant, finds that exiled Solutrean criminals, the exiles, have unfortunately also crossed the Atlantic — and have crept up upon them, armed. Exiles banded together, of course, just as decent people did, for mutual survival.
Zia and other Solutreans may have had dark hair and fair skin and light eyes as depicted, or some may have been blond. Here she found herself suddenly confronted with exiles both in front of and behind her.
The warlike Aryans — who came many thousands of years later — were definitely blond-haired, tall, and drank cow’s milk for added protein. They spread all across Europe and the Middle East. Gradually, their common language, now called “Indo-European,” as they separated and went in different directions, broke up into different sub-languages.
The head of the exile band in the section of North America where Zia and friends have landed threatens Zia”s brother with a razor-sharp spear and confiscates their only boat.
In the forests into which they had been expelled, the problem is that the exiles picked up other antisocial misfits, and became leaders or followers in growing clans of desperados.
We must remember that Europe back then was not overpopulated, like now, but drastically underpopulated, a nearly empty continent like North America or Australia in 1800, full of vast forests as in the story of “Little Red Riding Hood,” not wall-to-wall cities, suburbs and towns.
It offered plenty of space to highwaymen (and also to goodhearted rebels who were Robin Hood types).
In medieval Germany the forest (as in this depiction of the fairy tale) meant a place women and girls would not walk through alone, whether due to animal wolves or human wolves.
In fact, as late as the 1700s there were many still apiru (jewish) criminals, highwaymen, lurking in the forests of southern Germany. The story of Little Red Riding Hood reflects this fear of HUMAN stranger-danger in the forest.
And antisocial females would join them .. or normal women would be abducted so the sociopathic clan had females for sex and cooking.

Then an entire tribe arose .. then a whole “people” — or in reality, an anti-people.
To designate the southern Italian Mafia in the United States, we often use the term “crime family.”
This expresses that the various mafias are more than mere “companies” or “organizations.”
They are real clans, bands of people, united by feelings of belonging and by ties of marriage, blood and/or friendship as well as by greed and self-interest.
They are “fraternal” organizations of a sort, exhibiting a sordid cohesion (aside from the occasional assassinations among leaders!)

We can safely extrapolate from the movie “Ice Age Columbus” that
for thousands of years various exiled or escaped individuals since at least the Ice Age have been forming whole tribes of criminals.
And I believe, based on my research into the apiru, that exactly this kind of criminal outlaw clan was at the origin of the Jews, and also of the Scythians, who later were known as Khazars and became converted to the talmudic religion of Judaism.
The word “outlaw,” btw, does not just mean just “criminal.” It means a criminal so heinous that the king or local judge has ruled him “outside the law” that forbids killing.
And that meant anyone could strike him down without any punishment whatsoever, in effect “taking out the trash” for a grateful community.
It was such roving thieves, fences and murderers who became the apiru, and also the Khazars, the Gypsies, and other wandering CRIMINAL peoples who have always terrified decent village people for millennia as soon as they approached any permanent settlement of decent humans
Thus the Hebrews are not a pure race or a true “nation” of any kind, but instead
a criminal gene pool,
a psychopathic human breed,
that has collected ne’er-do-wells for thousands of years, letting them join their cut-throat horde.
And this crime family — known now as Jews — numbers in the tens of millions around the world.
I recall how the Israelis, of Habiru origin, delighted a few years back in the brazen murder of a Palestinian Hamas official.
Six Mossad operatives using genuine but stolen passports of several European nations invaded a Palestinian’s hotel room, and strangled him.
This was a cause for national celebration in Israel.
And this country’s name in Hebrew means, yes, as an angel said after Jacob wrestled with him:
“He fights against God.”

These Jews and crypto-Jews constantly attempt to fault the terrible Talmud and cruddy Cabalah for the very same attitudes iterated in the Old Testament, which they hold holy and good, and in so doing attempt to excuse the Jewish People, who in fact collectively worship their genocidal Jewish God through the lens of the Talmud, the Cabalah and the Old Testament. These lying Jews create artificial and false distinctions between Jewish sects,each of which revere the whole of Jewish religious thought including Talmud and Cabalah.
The Zoharites and Talmudists are not the only Jews to view the Kabalah and Talmud as holy books. All major Jewish sects view these books as holy. The “true Torah” Jews not only hold the Talmud and Kabalah to be holy books, they include the Talmud as a part of the Torah, the most important part of the Torah. These Jews who are held up as if good and friendly Jews believe that the Talmud is the most important and revered part of the Torah,despite the lies our Jewish and crypto-Jewish friends tell us about their fellow Jews.
Beyond this childish and ridiculous Cabal of lying Jews, the main stream media ridicule the view that the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion could in any way reflect the intentions and actions of the Jewish People, but there is little to be found in that document by way of a plan for World domination, which was not first iterated some 2,500 years ago in the Jewish Old Testament. The lying Jews claim that the accusation that Jews are engaged in a struggle for World domination and World government is an “anti-Semitic canard,” but this plan is plainly stated throughout the ancient Jewish Old Testament.
Let me here begin demonstrating this fact, already known to most Jews despite their public lies, by quoting the words of the Jews’ most revered mythical King, the murderous and treacherous snake of a man, King David, who conspired to murder a man named Uriah, who was loyally battling for David, so that David could then steal Uriah’s widowed wife from his butchered corpse (II Samuel 11).
The perverse Jewish mentality reveals itself in the fact that the Jews’ favorite king was a murderous and treacherous snake. Note that most Jews venerate the snake, King David, just as most Jews suffer from the perverse Jewish mentality which allows them to celebrate genocide every year on the Jews’ favorite holiday, the Jewish festival of Purim, at which festival the Jews engage in pretend cannibalism by eating “Haman’s ears.”
We find that the Jewish book revered by almost all Jews, the Songs of David, Psalms 2, states:
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potteräs vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
For 2,500, the Jewish People, not just the Zoharites and the Talmudists, but the collective whole of the Jewish People have anxiously awaited the arrival of this genocidal Jewish king who will exterminate the Goyim. This plan predates the Zohar by at least 1,700 years and predates the Talmud by at least 700 years.
Continuing the snake-king’s song, Psalm 18:40-50 states,
40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.
46 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.
48 He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
Psalm 72:8-11 states,
8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
Psalm 110:1-7 states,
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

JERUSALEM (JTA [JEWISH TELEGRAPH AGENCY]) ä Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.
“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi [a Turkish pasha]and eat,” he said to some laughter.

Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.
“With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.

Islam, Judaism and Communism believe in complete submission. the faiths believe in complete submission to a God while Communism believes the same to the State.
The authors of Communism, Karl Marx and Engels, who wrote the “Communist Manifesto” and “Das Kapital” brought death to over 100 million between Lenin, Stalin and Mao. #
When Marx said that “religion is the Opium of the Masses” he meant it for Christianity since he wrote this in London and knew of only Christianity and Judaism. Jews support Communism far more than any other group.
