I have lived in downtown San Francisco since 2001. My neighborhood was largely Asian when I arrived. Now when I go out on the street I encounter Mexicans who are speaking Spanish, lots of them.
Let me clarify. My neighborhood was largely Asian-American (Chinese). I would only rarely hear Chinese being spoken. These Asian-Americans mostly spoke English.
