Even though I joined the National Socialist White People’s Party in 1978, I have always felt a distance to the person of Adolf Hitler, and to the final outcome of his always spectacular life — searing, crushing, disastrous defeat.

Like many Americans, I could not quite appreciate his speaking style, although it worked for Germans very well. He seemed to be ranting the whole time, or taking himself too seriously.

Americans like their leaders to have and display a sense of humor about life and about themselves. Hitler seemed too eager to appear the “Man of Destiny” — although he was. Americans do not realize that George Washington as president also was criticized for an overly grave and dignified style, which some said indicated a man with leanings to become king. He was addressed as “Your Excellency,” a title which the third president, Thomas Jefferson. scrapped as president in favor of the much more modest “Mr. President.”

Clearly he was of an extraordinary intellectual brilliance, a man who was a propaganda genius, an oratorical genius….

Germans normally NEVER show their full emotions and are a reserved people. And while Hitler was in some ways the ultimate German, yet in others he was much more a Kelt, like the also dark-haired, blue-eyed Mel Gibson, possessing a keen sense of theater, drama, staging and show.

…an organizational genius, a political genius, an economic genius and a military genius.

Corporal Hitler in WWI, an unknown genius in gestation. He neither sought rapid promotion nor obtained it, yet was awarded two Iron Crosses for incredible valor. As a messenger, unlike other soldiers huddled in some safety in the trenches, he spent his day out in the open, as the enemy machine guns fired away, running from position to position with vital military messages, often leaping from rain-filled artillery crater to muddy crater. (Continuous artillery fire in WWI often cut field telephone lines, and there was no radio then, so messengers were as vital to communications in WWI as they had been in the Middle Ages.) Hitler also fought plenty as a regular infantryman. He once captured four French soldiers by himself, saw much hand-to-hand combat, was severely wounded in the thigh in 1916, and lay for hours in no man’s land before he could be carried back to his lines. Extraordinarily, his life was spared on September 28, 1918 by England’s greatest, most decorated enlisted soldier in WWI, Henry Tandey, who won the Victoria’s Cross for killing a phenomenal number of other Germans that day. Tandey’s and Hitler’s eyes locked and Tandey did not shoot on the unarmed Hitler, who was groggy from being knocked out. Hitler remained forever an admirer of the English.

Yes, despite any claims to credit for the Blitzkrieg made postwar by Hitler’s generals, General Leon Degrelle of the Waffen-SS was absolutely correct that Hitler both conceived and implemented the “lightning war” idea which Guderian perfected: a combined attack by tanks, plans and motorized infantry that emphasized surprise, speed, shock and aimed at encircling the enemy, not slogging it out with him in the trenches or bogged down in dismal house-to-house fighting.

And Adolf was also a design genius, insisting on the most amazing beauty, sex appeal and grandeur in every form of art, architecture, and uniform that appeared during the 12 years of his Reich. (The still-famous Hugo Boss fashion company was one of the leading German firms Hitler used to make the German Wehrmacht uniform.)

A member of the Feldpolizei, “field police,” who grabbed and hanged German soldiers who were deserters, rapists or pillagers. Even the Germans had some bad apples, and they were executed by the Feldpolizei up on a tree or placed against a wall without mercy, and that included officers as well. No army in history was more free of rapists and thieves than the German Wehrmacht. (Unfortunately, GIs, blinded by jewish hate films against the Germans, were infamous for stealing from German soldiers, and for looting among German civilians, showing how jewish even white Americans had become under the influence of their hate propaganda. There were also many instances of rape by Americans (white and black), and by French troops (white and Moroccan) , but much less by the British. As the British historian Anthony Beevor has proved, the Sovietized Russians raped, looted and tortured German soldiers and civilians massively — at the direct and repeated urging of Stalin’s chief propagandist, the jew Ilya Ehrenburg. (I met a freckled, red-haired Russian jew in Boston in 1998 who boasted to me that his grandfather had “liberated,” with great relish, many a German woman. He had absolutely no idea with whom he was speaking with his satanic grin. I seethed and vowed to never forget that conversation.)

This universal genius of Hitler was why John Kennedy wrote in his diary (http://www.ihr.org/jhr/v18/v18n3p30_Kennedy.html) that Hitler was the stuff out of which legends are made.

Just after his visit to Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s Bavarian Alps home, Kennedy wrote a remarkable commentary in his diary, dated August 1, 1945, about Hitler and his place in history:

After visiting these places, you can easily understand how that within a few years Hitler will emerge from the hatred that surrounds him now as one of the most significant figures who ever lived. He had boundless ambition for his country which rendered him a menace to the peace of the world, but he had a mystery about him in the way that he lived and in the manner of his death that will live and grow after him. He had in him the stuff of which legends are made.

I also found it bizarre that Hitler never ate meat and potatoes or lifted weights –or did any sports — because we Americans like our leaders to be husky guys with at least some muscle on their frames. (I studied Vedanta Hinduism in 1993 at an Indian brahmin’s retreat in eastern Pennsylvania and while there I had to eat vegetarian, which was Hitler’s predilection. I noticed that a lot of men at the restreat, the “Himalayan Institute,” lost muscle mass on a vegetarian diet, and turned extremely skinny, although veggies and tofu seemed to have no negative effect on women. Margi has pointed out that Hitler’s face seemed to sag in the 1930s, and the face is composed largely of muscle under our skin. He was a much better-looking man in the Twenties.)

Hitler in a 1920 film, probably weighing about 140 pounds. At the same height, 5′10″ (I have several other similarities physically to the man, including eye color, cheekbones, forehead shape, etc.) I weigh 185 due to lifting weights and doing sports.

I have admitted in my blog before that I had the strangest experience at around age five when I first saw a picture of this man. I had discovered a framed stamp at my grandfather’s house whihc displayed him as chancellor of the German Reich. I found myself just staring at it in some strange feeling of connectedness for 15 minutes — until my father came upstairs, scolded me for ignoring him and confiscated the framed stamp, telling me Hitler was a “bad man, a very bad, bad man” (which is what Roosevelt had told American GIs such as my father).

Right after this, again at the age of five, I began studying my first foreign language, German, in great earnest, and was able to hold a little conversation a year later in German with a lady from Deutschland on a flight from Providence to Pittsburgh to see my great-grandmother, née Berlin, at the home in Greensburg.

It was one of those inexplicable occurrences — such as a silly stamp with an unknown foreign leader impacting a five-year-old — a strange event such as, actually, many people have, but they usually do not talk about it.

But such mysterious feelings mark the person.

I felt neither affection nor hatred for Hitler gazing at his visage, just distance, as if that man represented something somehow important but that had to stay firmly in the PAST — someone perhaps to be inspired by, to be learned from, and then resolutely moved beyond.

I felt and I feel that we must look FORWARD. (And this leads me further on to Thomas Jefferson.)

Two main things in Mein Kampf “turned me off” — one, the concept of the genius-dictator, which Hitler called the Führerprinzip. Certainly, the giving of total power to a genius can work wonders, but what happens when he insists on a disastrous decision?

And that disastrous decision was my second turn-off — Operation Barbarossa, June 22, 1941, which was NOT meant to liberate Russia but to chase out the Soviets and then install a German occupation regime in the east, taking their land and making them slaves of Greater Germany.

No one could persuade Hitler to change that policy, which was of long standing. He had enunciated it in Mein Kampf in 1925, reiterated it in the Second Book in 1928, and ordered it implemented in Operation Barbarossa in 1941. It was not until September 1944 that he completely changed gears and allowed the Russian patriot, General Vlassov, to establish a Russian National Liberation Army, but by then Germany had suffered the debacle at Stalingrad and was already doomed and in full retreat. Seven months later Hitler was dead, and the unlucky Vlassov was later strangled by order of Stalin.

Lesson? Even a genius must not get absolute power.

Even a genius must answer to a High Council — and ultimately to his people. For this reason I do NOT hate the incompetent Count von Stauffenberg, a one-armed, one-eyed combat veteran who tried to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944 in a desperate and impractical bid to get the western Allies, America and Britain, to fight alongside a Germany-without-Hitler against the advancing, raping, communist army of Stalin. As General Otto Ernst Remer told me in 1987, at an IHR conference, he could easily have killed Hitler (who trusted his officers) simply by pulling out his pistol and shooting him dead, instead of placing under Hitler’s conference table a bomb inside a bag — which later got moved. Then, under the honor code of a German officer, as Remer told me, he should have executed himself with the same pistol for having violated his oath and struck down his commander-in-chief. If he had sacrificed himself, this would have freed Stauffenberg’s name forever from the accusation of personal ambition, such as the desire to become chancellor.

Count von Stauffenberg with two of his blond daughters. Had Hitler listened to many officers on the Eastern Front, and reversed his anti-Slavic course, he could have won the war by 1942 against the hated Stalin, who had murdered millions of Aryan Slavs using jewish henchmen such as Kaganovich and Miklis.

As the great French antisemitic writer Edouard Drumont said, and Count von Stauffenberg did not consider:

[JdN: The Constitution indirectly forbade standing armies; the president was to ASK the state militias for help through their governors if America was INVADED. There is NO provision in the US Constitution for a US Army, ONLY for a US Navy, because a Navy cannot be used to arrrest dissidents or enslave the people on land!]

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency [as with the FEDERAL RESERVE], [then] first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
