Construction of a German military base begins in Lithuania

In the town of Rūdninkai, 4,800 service members of the 45th Tank Brigade of the German Armed Forces will be stationed, and also in the town of Rukla, with 200 civilian personnel to be deployed. The construction of the base will last until 2027 and will cost 1 billion euros.
To staff the brigade, the Bundeswehr is trying to obtain additional funding of 2.93 billion euros from the Bundestag to purchase 105 Leopard 2 A8 tanks.
Leopard 2’s are used by the armed forces of 22 countries and are also in service in all Central European countries, i.e. Germany, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. KMW has produced more than 3,500 Leopard 2s and today they are assembled mainly in Munich and Kassel.
German troops will be permanently stationed abroad for the first time since the end of World War II. And they will be deployed in a state bordering Russia and its protectorate, the like-minded Belarus.
