Upset with his loss of popularity by Jewish voters, he wanted to give Israel as much covert “and ultimately, had the plan succeeded, overt“ support as possible in the plan to engage their neighbors in that war, including the creation of a pretext to join them in attacking Egypt.

This book finally exposes the actual cause “ the only realistic possible explanation “ of the mysterious, and unresolved, vicious attack on a U.S. Naval ship. After the botched plan had been executed, the ship refused to sink even after being hit by a torpedo, leading the attack to be cancelled and a massive cover-up invoked, including severe threats for the crew members to “keep their lips sealed.”

As the ex-CIA analyst Ray McGovern put it in the book’s Foreword, those orders “put steroids to the PTSD suffered by many of the survivors.”

That cover-up is still, barely, in place, and now completely exposed. 

Written largely by three of the survivors themselves (Ernie Gallo, Ron Kukal and Phil Tourney [JdN: I met Tourney in 2008 and did a radio show with Kukal in 2016 — heroes both]), the truth is finally being told, with the remaining secrets of the real story finally revealed.

Remember the Liberty! puts much more focus on the brutality with which the Johnson administration and the U.S. Navy hierarchy treated the sailors themselves, not only then, but, as importantly, continuing even now.

It began before, during and immediately after the attack but “because of the threats of prison r worse” if they ever uttered a word about it, even to their wives or parents “ it festered for decades, while they had to live “ alone, sans support groups “ with the horrors they had experienced first-hand, in real time.

It meant keeping their appalling memories within themselves for 15-20 years before they felt safe enough to even discuss it with anyone else.  Their stories relate how they have continued to be marginalized and dismissed by the mainstream media (MSM) and accused of anti-Semitism by Israeli defenders in knee-jerk fashion.  In fact, the book contains an entire chapter dedicated to this point, along with other references to the same point within other chapters.

Another very significant point “never previously noted in any other book on this incident”  is how, after the motor torpedo boats had fired four torpedoes and all had missed the target, the fifth torpedo which hit the Liberty was fired, according to one sailor’s account, as the result of a presidential order to sink one of his own ships. 

The severely wounded sailor who discovered this part of the story “a well-respected man of impeccable reputation,“ was nearly killed during the attack, only saved by another sailor who came to his rescue and helped him to the medics, holding his intestines inside his abdomen until he delivered his fellow sailor to the ship’s only doctor. 

When he was finally released from the hospital and returned to the U.S., he then discovered that his Navy records had been fudged to hide the fact that he was even on the ship, so he had to hire an investigator to prove it in order to obtain his disability acknowledged.

His investigator had high-level Pentagon contacts who revealed many of the hidden secrets to him, and that’s how the survivor found out about that “fifth torpedo.”   No one else has ever come forward to verify his story, and allow their names to be released, so, accordingly, we had to treat this part of it very “deftly,” almost as though it was merely a “rumor” that may one day finally be acknowledged.

Many other books have been written on the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty.  Some of those present the case put forth by the U.S. and Israeli governments’ “official story” (See those by A. J. Cristol, or Michael Oren), developed to perpetuate the contrived cover-up account, hiding the incriminating facts and essentially writing it off as a freak “accident.”

But that was never the reaction of the State Department officials of the time, or the Navy brass who were not under orders to conduct a phony investigation designed to cover it up.  One of them, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Thomas Moorer, observed that the president’s handling of the Liberty attack was ”the most disgraceful act I witnessed in my entire military career.” 

The man who wrote the original fabricated Navy “Court of Inquiry” report on the incident “ the report used by those same authors as the basis for their books “ eventually retracted all of it:  Former Navy Captain Ward Boston Jr., JAGC, in 2004 wrote a scathing renunciation of the book by A. J. Cristol, admitting that the original Navy report was designed to cover up the truths and replace them with bald-faced lies, as we detail in the book.

The many books which have attempted to lay out the substantiated facts behind the attack all come to the conclusion that the brutal 2+ hour attack was not only intentional “nor was it designed to merely put the ship out of commission, which was accomplished within the first five minutes.“

It was meant to ensure that it sank to the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea and that there would be no survivors who might attempt to “correct history.”  These books (primarily those by James Ennes, James Scott and several others referenced in our book) do not mention the primary factor that actually caused the attack in the first place, and which then created the massive cover-up.   

Some of the best books (e.g. Peter Hounam’s Operation Cyanide) did point to strange actions going on at the White House, and suggested that Johnson’s political troubles might have something to do with the chain of events.

But Remember the Liberty! is the first book to factor into the equation LBJ’s clear psychosis, known to those close to him but long hidden from the public by the press and fawning historians. 

Only by understanding his manic desire to win back the political support of Jewish people in the biggest cities “ especially New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami and Los Angeles “ who had abandoned him because of his Vietnam policies, can one understand what really happened. 

Like his previous “false flag” operation “ the phantom attack at the Gulf of Tonkin by North Vietnamese gunboats on two U.S. Navy destroyers, conveniently occurring just three months before the 1964 elections, which helped him win his landslide victory “ he thought this attack would secure his re-election the following year. 

Yet the opposite happened: When the Liberty did not sink “ and his devious “false flag” plan to use it as a pretext for blaming the attack on Egypt and join Israel in their victorious “Six Day War” collapsed “ his re-election chances were the only thing that sank.  Nine months later he reluctantly announced that he would remove himself from the 1968 elections to the very office that he had lusted for his entire life.

The conflicted goals of the Six Day War are the root cause of the turbulence in the Mid-East, which the world has witnessed for the last five decades.  It has produced ironies, such as the fact that over half of the U.S. foreign aid budget goes to Israel, a well-developed, prosperous economic power set amidst some of the most poverty-ridden nations in the world. 

And it was through the paradox of Johnson’s most sordid manipulations that the U.S./Israel relationship became so close in the aftermath of the Liberty attack:  Suddenly, U.S. policy was transformed from being “neutral” towards all countries in the area “as previous administrations had tried to remain, to avoid being seen as partial to either side“ to that of openly, aggressively, backing Israel in all possible ways, including its acquisition of nuclear weapons and delivery systems. 

Meanwhile, the tensions between Israel and its Palestinian “citizens” in what they consider as “occupied territory” has descended into a state of constant fighting between the two sides, especially as manifested in the walled-off territory called Gaza.  While Israel claims to be the only democracy in the area, that term seems to apply only to those of the Jewish faith or their descendants.  For Palestinians, the more correct term would be “apartheid.”    The worst part of the current state of affairs in the existential Israel / Palestine state is how all of those facets appear to have been the product of the insouciance “or worse, the rigidly pro-Zionist views“ of America’s leadership, regardless of the individuals or the parties in power.

This book will undoubtedly come under fire for its controversial assertions.  But any criticisms of it being biased against Israel will be misplaced, since, if anything, it finally puts the primary blame for the attack on the USS Liberty where it should have always been: upon Lyndon Johnson. 

Israeli leaders were only taking their despicable actions because Johnson had insisted on it, implicitly, as a condition for his assistance in their plans for extending Israeli borders into Palestine.

 The fact that his diabolical plan failed, and the Liberty did not sink, thanks to the heroic efforts of the survivors, saved the world from the nuclear conflagration which might have otherwise occurred, with Jerusalem “the city of peace,” at ground zero.

In summary, the Jews killed Kennedy because they wanted The Bomb, and the Jew Johnson gave it to them right after he got Kennedy killed in Dallas, a stronghold of the Texan Johnson’s power. (Kennedy was foolish to go to a key city run by Johnson, whom JFK and Bobby Kennedy loathed; President Kennedy was about to drop Johnson from the ticket for 1964.) In 1967 Johnson plotted to sink the USS Liberty so as to blame Egypt, whereupon the US and Israel would invade the entire Middle East together and seize the oil fields for the Jews.

The revelations below confirms my long-held view that Lyndon Baines Johnson was a total traitor. That is, a traitor to America, but not to his real ethnic people, via his maternal family line, not a traitor to his fellow Jews.

That is, unless this literally black-eyed, black-haired supposed WASP (his wife “Lady Bird” had the same blackish features) was in fact a marrano, a crypto-Jew. Even as a boy in 1964 I was amazed to see a supposed “white man” as president in our then still WASPY country whose irises were as black as his pupils — two big black marbles, as black as his heart.

Ironically, his openly part-Jewish opponent in the 1964 election, Senator Barry Goldwater, whom I met in 1968 at the Governors’ Ball at the inauguration of Richard Nixon, had bright blue eyes.

This detail about the eyes, and a saying tells us “the eyes are the window of the soul,” is also noted in the liberal Jewish historian Robert Caro’s Pulitzer Prize-winning multi-volume biography of Johnson, which I read, since Johnson was the key president of my formative years in the 1960s.

Caro admired LBJ’s liberalism (“civil rights,” welfare state, big government) but was appalled by the man’s crass ego, physical cowardice as both a student and an officer, his grotesque sexual obsessions (such as displaying his huge penis to male reporters in the White House swimming pool…), and his utter ruthlessness at stealing elections (he was sarcastically called “Landslide Lyndon” after a fraudulent electoral “landslide” by Mexicans in south Texas barely eaked him out a “victory” in 1948 for US Senate), fraudulently claiming military service (he spent a few hours in an Army Air Corps uniform, panicked when his plane came under Japanese fire, and got out immediately with Roosevelt’s permission), and as Caro strongly hints, murdering a man to get hold of his television stations.

She did it all for the victory of Judah over the goyim. Nearly two-thirds of the ship’s crew became casualties. The machine-gunning of the life rafts, after the prepare-to-abandon-ship order was given, was a specific and outrageous war crime. Admiral John McCain (father of the traitor who ran for president in 2008), at the behest of LBJ, sent another admiral to threaten the surviving sailors if they spoke openly about this unprovoked massacre.

Johnson started a disastrous war in Vietnam that has scarred America for decades — our first military loss ever — and with his gradualist approach — a slow military buildup — and not holding onto land once conquered, but relinquishing it back to the enemy, he in effect ordered our defeat.

Chapter 9: Johnson’s Hidden Loyalties

Secret Ethnicity

As previously stated, the Johnson administration implemented a dramatic shift in US-Middle East policy. Every president after Johnson has totally capitulated to Israel and ignored the plight of Palestinians.

But Johnson marked the turning point. The reason he was so loyal to Israel lies within his own ethnicity. It appears that he and his wife were secretly Jewish. To many, this may seem laughable at first, but in reality Jews were an integral part of Texas history throughout the nineteenth century. Jacob and Phineas De Cordova sold land and developed Waco. Simon Mussina founded Brownsville in 1848. Michael Seeligson was elected mayor of Galveston in 1853. Morris Lasker was elected to the state Senate in 1895.2 The list goes on.

The first Jewish settlers of note in Texas were Samuel Issacks (1821) followed by N. Adolphus Sterne (1826).3 By 1838, Jews were living in Galveston, San Antonio, Velasco, Bolivar, Nacogdoches, and Goliad.4 In the early part of the twentieth century, a large of number of Russian
Jews migrated to Texas to escape persecution from the Russian Czar.

Between 1900 and 1920, the Jewish population in Texas grew from 15,000 to 30,000. Major cities, Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and San Antonio, experienced enormous growth in Jewish populations.5 The overall number of Jews in Texas has steadily increased ever since. After World War II, the abundance of Jewish residents grew from an estimated 50,000 in 1945 to 71,000 in the mid-1970s and 92,000 in 1988.6

Before 1821, Texas was still a Spanish colony where only Catholics could take up residence. Jews who openly acknowledged their ethnicity could not legally live there.7 Originally, Jews migrated to Texas to seek fortune and freedom. The earliest Jews, who arrived with the conquistadors, came from Sephardic (Spanish-North African-Israel) communities.8 After the Mexican period, Jewry in Texas was essentially populated by immigrants from Germany, eastern Europe, and the Americas.9

Lyndon Johnson’s maternal ancestors, the Huffmans, apparently migrated to Frederick, Maryland from Germany sometime in the mid-eighteenth century. Later they moved to Bourbon, Kentucky and eventually settled in Texas in the mid-to-late nineteenth century.10

According to Jewish law, if a person’s mother is Jewish, then that person is automatically Jewish, regardless of the father’s ethnicity or religion. The facts indicate that both of Lyndon Baines Johnson’s great-grandparents, on the maternal side, were Jewish. These were the grandparents of Lyndon’s mother, Rebecca Baines.11 Their names were John S. Huffman and Mary Elizabeth Perrin.12 John Huffman’s mother was Suzanne Ament, a common Jewish name. Perrin is also a common Jewish name.

[JdN: I was able, as stated above, to verify both these claims. Ament and Perrin are indeed Jewish names, just like Goldberg or Horowitz.]

Huffman and Perrin had a daughter, Ruth Ament Huffman,13 who married Joseph Baines14 and together they had a daughter, Rebecca Baines,15 Lyndon Johnson’s mother. The line of Jewish mothers can be traced back three generations in Lyndon Johnson’s family tree. There is little doubt that he was Jewish.

A few weeks ago, the Associated Press reported that newly released tapes from US president Lyndon Johnson’s White House office showed LBJ’s “personal and often emotional connection to Israel.” The news agency pointed out that during the Johnson presidency (1963-1969), “the United States became Israel’s chief diplomatic ally and primary arms supplier.”

But the news report does little to reveal the full historical extent of Johnson’s actions on behalf of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Most students of the Arab-Israeli conflict can identify Johnson as the president during the 1967 war. But few know about LBJ’s actions to rescue hundreds of endangered Jews during the Holocaust – actions that could have thrown him out of Congress and into jail. Indeed, the title of “Righteous Gentile” is certainly appropriate in the case of the Texan, whose centennial year is being commemorated this year.

Appropriately enough, the annual Jerusalem Conference announced this week that it will honor Johnson in February 2009.

Historians have revealed that Johnson, while serving as a young congressman in 1938 and 1939, arranged for visas to be supplied to Jews in Warsaw, and oversaw the apparently illegal immigration of hundreds of Jews through the port of Galveston, Texas.

A key resource for uncovering LBJ’s pro-Jewish activity is the unpublished 1989 doctoral thesis by University of Texas student Louis Gomolak, “Prologue: LBJ’s Foreign Affairs Background, 1908-1948.” Johnson’s activities were confirmed by other historians in interviews with his wife, family members and political associates.

Research into Johnson’s personal history indicates that he inherited his concern for the Jewish people from his family. His aunt Jessie Johnson Hatcher, a major influence on LBJ, was a member of the Zionist Organization of America. According to Gomolak, Aunt Jessie had nurtured LBJ’s commitment to befriending Jews for 50 years. As a young boy, Lyndon watched his politically active grandfather “Big Sam” and father “Little Sam” seek clemency for Leo Frank, the Jewish victim of a blood libel in Atlanta. Frank was lynched by a mob in 1915, and the Ku Klux Klan in Texas threatened to kill the Johnsons. The Johnsons later told friends that Lyndon’s family hid in their cellar while his father and uncles stood guard with shotguns on their porch in case of KKK attacks. Johnson’s speechwriter later stated, “Johnson often cited Leo Frank’s lynching as the source of his opposition to both anti-Semitism and isolationism.”

Already in 1934 – four years before Chamberlain’s Munich sellout to Hitler – Johnson was keenly alert to the dangers of Nazism and presented a book of essays, Nazism: An Assault on Civilization, to the 21-year-old woman he was courting, Claudia Taylor – later known as “Lady Bird” Johnson. It was an incredible engagement present.

FIVE DAYS after taking office in 1937, LBJ broke with the “Dixiecrats” and supported an immigration bill that would naturalize illegal aliens, mostly Jews from Lithuania and Poland. In 1938, Johnson was told of a young Austrian Jewish musician who was about to be deported from the United States. With an element of subterfuge, LBJ sent him to the US Consulate in Havana to obtain a residency permit. Erich Leinsdorf, the world famous musician and conductor, credited LBJ for saving his live.

That same year, LBJ warned a Jewish friend, Jim Novy, that European Jews faced annihilation. “Get as many Jewish people as possible out [of Germany and Poland],” were Johnson’s instructions. Somehow, Johnson provided him with a pile of signed immigration papers that were used to get 42 Jews out of Warsaw.

But that wasn’t enough. According to historian James M. Smallwood, Congressman Johnson used legal and sometimes illegal methods to smuggle “hundreds of Jews into Texas, using Galveston as the entry port. Enough money could buy false passports and fake visas in Cuba, Mexico and other Latin American countries…. Johnson smuggled boatloads and planeloads of Jews into Texas. He hid them in the Texas National Youth Administration… Johnson saved at least four or five hundred Jews, possibly more.”

During World War II Johnson joined Novy at a small Austin gathering to sell $65,000 in war bonds. According to Gomolak, Novy and Johnson then raised a very “substantial sum for arms for Jewish underground fighters in Palestine.” One source cited by the historian reports that “Novy and Johnson had been secretly shipping heavy crates labeled ‘Texas Grapefruit’ – but containing arms – to Jewish underground ‘freedom fighters’ in Palestine.”

ON JUNE 4, 1945, Johnson visited Dachau. According to Smallwood, Lady Bird later recalled that when her husband returned home, “he was still shaken, stunned, terrorized and bursting with an overpowering revulsion and incredulous horror at what he had seen.”

A decade later while serving in the Senate, Johnson blocked the Eisenhower administration’s attempts to apply sanctions against Israel following the 1956 Sinai Campaign. “The indefatigable Johnson had never ceased pressure on the administration,” wrote I.L. “Si” Kenen, the head of AIPAC at the time.

As Senate majority leader, Johnson consistently blocked the anti-Israel initiatives of his fellow Democrat, William Fulbright, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Wikipedia: “Fulbright [who had won SIX TERMS AS A US SENATOR from Arkansas, and for years opposed the black “civil rights” agenda used against our white nation] retired from the Senate in 1974, after being defeated in the Democratic primary by then-Governor Dale Bumpers. Previously the same year the Anti-Defamation League, the leading Jewish defense organization, claimed that Fulbright was “consistently unkind to Israel and our supporters in this country.” In response to this Bumpers received considerable financial support from the pro-Israel community. . .”

Among Johnson’s closest advisers during this period were several strong pro-Israel advocates, including Benjamin Cohen (who 30 years earlier was the liaison between Supreme Court justice Louis Brandeis and Chaim Weizmann) and Abe Fortas, the legendary Washington “insider.”

Johnson’s concern for the Jewish people continued through his presidency. Soon after taking office in the aftermath of John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963, Johnson told an Israeli diplomat, “You have lost a very great friend, but you have found a better one.”

Just one month after succeeding Kennedy, LBJ attended the December 1963 dedication of the Agudas Achim Synagogue in Austin. Novy opened the ceremony by saying to Johnson, “We can’t thank him enough for all those Jews he got out of Germany during the days of Hitler.”

LBJ is seated and looking all touched as Novy praises him. The antisemite Kennedy was gone.

Lady Bird would later describe the day, according to Gomolak: “Person after person plucked at my sleeve and said, ‘I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him. He helped me get out.’” Lady Bird elaborated, “Jews had been woven into the warp and woof of all [Lyndon’s] years.”

I added: Btw, Incogman, I was born in 1954 and thus was nine when Kennedy was murdered, and an elementary-school pupil, in Rumford, Rhode Island. I remember the same exact scene, right down to the shellacked wooden loudspeaker and the principal coming on. (His voice was a bit shaky from emotion.)

It was such beautiful late-fall weather that day, not one cloud in the sky, and I remember thinking ( I was deep into reading and watching the news) that I would never see such a perfect, cool, spotlessly sunny day again without thinking of the murder of John Kennedy. And it is still true today. Every gorgeous, sunny fall day makes me think how the Jews murdered a man whose every speech had depth, whose words had electricity, and whose nordic good looks made the Jews feel inferior. John Kennedy decided forever the question which race is God-favored, and which is the true Chosen People — the Aryans.

BY LATE 1965 THE KGB HAD CONCLUDED LYNDON JOHNSON WAS BEHIND THE JFK ASSASSINATION

By September 16, 1965, the Soviet KGB had concluded that Lyndon Johnson was responsible for the JFK assassination. On 12/1/66 J. Edgar Hoover sent a memo to LBJ which stated:

“On September 16, 1965, this same source reported that the KGB Residency in New York City received instructions approximately September 16, 1965, from KGB headquarters in Moscow to develop all possible information concerning President Lyndon B. Johnson’s character, background, personal friends, family, and from which quarters he derives his support in his position as President of the United States. Our source added that in the instructions from Moscow, it was indicated that “now” the KGB was in possession of data purporting to indicate President Johnson was responsible for the assassination of the late President John F. Kennedy. KGB headquarters indicated that in view of this information, it was necessary for the Soviet Government to know the existing personal relationship between President Johnson and the Kennedy family, particularly between President Johnson and Robert and “Ted” Kennedy.”

LYNDON JOHNSON USED BLACKMAIL AND THREATS TO FORCE JOHN KENNEDY TO PUT HIM ON THE 1960 DEMOCRATIC TICKET

 

LBJ, ever seeking to dominate, and very tall at 6’4″, smooches Speaker Rayburn on his bald pate.

Lyndon Johnson and Sam Rayburn, taking advantage of Hoover’s dossier on JFK, used sexual blackmail and other threats on John Kennedy on the night of July 13^th at the 1960 Democratic convention in Los Angeles in order to force Kennedy to put LBJ on the ticket. Johnson was not on JFK’s short list for VP; he was not on the long list. LBJ was not on the VP list – period. Johnson had made a hostile take over of the vice presidential slot.

John Kennedy told his close friend Hy Raskin: “You know we had never considered Lyndon, but I was left with no choice. He and Sam Rayburn made it damn clear to me that Lyndon had to be the candidate. Those bastards were trying to frame me. They threatened me with problems and I don’t need more problems. I’m going to have enough problems with Nixon.” Evelyn Lincoln, JFK’s secretary for 11+ years, also confirms that Lyndon Johnson used sexual blackmail combined with other threats to force JFK to put LBJ on the 1960 Democratic ticket.

On the night of the victory of the JFK-LBJ ticket, or rather early in the morning on Nov. 9^th, 1960, Lyndon Johnson was very unhappy, with a rude and surly attitude. Journalist Margaret Mayer, “I don’t think I ever saw a more unhappy man… There was no jubilation. Lyndon looked like he’d lost his last friend on earth, and later he was rude to me, very rude, and I tried to remind myself that he was very unhappy.”

 

Author Gus Russo: In his oral history, Robert Kennedy bitterly recounted a remark that Johnson made to someone else after the assassination. “When I was young in Texas, I used to know a cross-eyed boy,” Johnson said. “His eyes were crossed, and so was his character… That was God’s retribution for people who were bad – and you should be careful of cross-eyed people because God put his mark on them … Sometimes I think that what happened to Kennedy may have been divine retribution.” JFK himself had slightly crossed eyes.

Edgar Hoover who along with LBJ was the primary architect of the cover up, told Billy Byars, Jr.: “If I told you what I really know, it would be very dangerous to the country. Our whole political system could be disrupted.”Hoover was responding to a question of whether Oswald really shot JFK. (Source: Billy Byars, Jr.)

Allen Dulles who ran the cover up on the Warren Commision farce, said before he died, “That little Kennedy. He thought he was a god.”

 

Prescott Bush, the father of GHW Bush, later wrote Clover Dulles, the widow of Allen Dulles, in 1969, about his meeting with Allen Dulles after JFK had canned him in fall, 1961. “He [Allen] tried to make a pleasant evening of it, but I was rather sick of heard, and angry too, for it was the Kennedys that brought about the fiasco [Bay of Pigs]. And here they were making Allen to be the goat, which he wasn’t and did not deserve. I have never forgiven them.”

 

Note the last sentence of Prescott Bush. His son George Herbert Walker Bush says he can’t remember where he was on the day of the JFK assassination, despite his being a US Senate candidate staying in the Dallas, TX Sheraton the night of 11/21/63 and being in Dallas on 11/22/63. GHW Bush helped plan the Bay of Pigs invasion and I think he was involved in the JFK assassination.

David Atlee Phillips just before his death said, “My final take on the assassination is there was a conspiracy, likely including American intelligence officers.” Phillips told that to that to Kevin Walsh, an HSCA investigator. My take on Phillips’s statement: that is a limited hang out. Phillips’ brother had long suspected him in the JFK assassination.

 

Robert Kennedy in 1963 said, “If the American people knew the truth about Dallas, there would be blood in the streets.” Bobby and Jackie Kennedy immediately suspected that a high level domestic conspiracy had murdered JFK, and within weeks they sent a trusted emissary, William Walton, to Moscow to tell that to the Russians in person. Robert Kennedy , in the afternoon of 11/22/63, told his trusted ally Enrique “Harry” Ruiz-Williams that “One of your guys did it.” Harry Williams was Cuban exile leader and a Castro opponent. RFK’s gut instinct after the arrest of Oswald was that he came out of the CIA’s anti-Castro operations and the secret war against Cuba. Oswald had a public persona as a pro-Castro Marxist, but in reality he was US intelligence and the chosen fall guy for the assassination of John Kennedy.

Don Thomas, a close LBJ friend, said “I’m the only living man who knows what happened in Box 13 … But Clark took care of things in Dallas.” Thomas is referring to the legendary lawyer and Texas power broker Ed Clark, who was extremely close to Lyndon Johnson and Clint Murchison who was one of his key clients.

 

Barr McClellan reports that “I would be the attorney of record for Clark in his quest for a payoff for what he had done in the Kennedy assassination.” [Blood, Money & Power, p. 232] Basically Texas oil executives were giving Ed Clark free in interest in oil deals as a reward for murdering JFK.

 

Barr McClellan worked closely with Ed Clark, the secret political boss of Texas, and a very close friend of LBJ. Barr says that Ed Clark used to slap paperwork down on his desk (free oil deal investments for Ed Clark) while saying “Barr, take care of this. This is for Dallas.” Translation – these are payoffs for helping to arrange the JFK assassination.

 

John Currington, H.L. Hunt’s chief operation officer said, “I have no doubt that Lyndon Johnson may have ordered John Kennedy’s murder. He or his wife [Lady Bird]. She was more vicious than he. Even more brutal.”

 

(My opinion: Lady Bird Johnson may very well have known the details of the JFK assassination. LBJ’s mistress Madeleine Brown certainly did.)

 

Jack Ruby, while in jail, told Al Maddox “In order to understand the [JFK] assassination, you have to read the book A Texan Looks at Lyndon.”

 

John Connally told Doug Thompson over dinner in 1982: “You know I was one of the ones who advised Kennedy to stay away from Texas. Lyndon [Johnson] was being a real asshole about the whole thing and insisted.”

 

Doug Thompson: “Connally’s mood darkened as he talked about Dallas. When the bullet hit him, he said he felt like he had been kicked in the ribs and couldn’t breathe. He spoke kindly of Jackie Kennedy and said he admired both her bravery and composure.

 

I had to ask. Did he think Lee Harvey Oswald fired the gun that killed Kennedy?

 

‘Absolutely not,’ Connally said. ‘I do not, for one second, believe the conclusions of the Warren Commission.’ “So why not speak out?” “Because I love this country and we needed closure at the time. I will never speak out publicly about what I believe.'”

 

I currently do not think John Connally was involved in the JFK assassination but there is no doubt he did a tremendous amount of lying in the aftermath. Connally does admit he and JFK were NOT hit by the same shot. William Manchester on Connally: “Suddenly the governor felt doomed. He panicked. “No, no, no, no, no!” he shrieked. They’re going to kill us both!” Manchester’s source for this quote was Jackie Kennedy.

The version of his quote that Connally told later was “My God, they are going to kill us all!” I will put my money on the Manchester version, but I just don’t think Connally had foreknowledge of the JFK assassination; although LBJ certainly did. Lyndon Johnson was at the epicenter of it.

 

CIA director John McCone told Robert Kennedy that he thought two people were involved in the shooting. One of RFK’s first calls on the day of the JFK assassination was to McCone and he asked him were our people behind this?

 

In May of 1968, Richard Lubic, an aide to Robert Kennedy, called William Turner and told him, “After he’s elected, Bobby’s going to go. He’s going to reopen the investigation.”

LYNDON JOHNSON HAD A MURDEROUS ATTITUDE TOWARDS ROBERT KENNEDY – “I’ll cut his throat if it’s the last thing I do.”

 

Robert Caro describes the LBJ-RFK relationship post 1960 Democratic convention, where RFK had moved heaven and earth attempting to keep LBJ off the 1960 Democratic ticket.

John Connally, who during long days of conversation with this author was willing to answer almost any question put to him, no matter how delicate the topic, wouldn’t answer when asked what Johnson said about Robert Kennedy. When the author pressed him, he finally said flatly: “I am not going to tell you what he said about him.” During the months after the convention, when Johnson was closeted alone back in Texas with an old ally he would sometimes be asked about Robert Kennedy. He would reply with a gesture. Raising his big right hand, he would draw the side of it across the neck in a slowing, slitting movement. Sometimes that gesture would be his only reply; sometimes, as during a meeting with Ed Clark in Austin, he would say, as his hand moved across his neck, “I’ll cut his throat if it’s the last thing I do.” [Robert Caro, The Passage of Power, p. 140]

…..LBJ rescues Israhell

 

THE PRELUDE to the 1967 war was a terrifying period for Israel, with the US State Department led by the historically unfriendly Dean Rusk urging an evenhanded policy despite Arab threats and acts of aggression. Johnson held no such illusions. After the war he placed the blame firmly on Egypt: “If a single act of folly was more responsible for this explosion than any other, it was the arbitrary and dangerous announced decision [by Egypt] that the Strait of Tiran would be closed [to Israeli ships and Israeli-bound cargo].”

Kennedy was the first president to approve the sale of defensive US weapons to Israel, specifically Hawk anti-aircraft missiles. But Johnson approved tanks and fighter jets, all vital after the 1967 war when France imposed a freeze on sales to Israel. Yehuda Avner recently described on these pages prime minister Levi Eshkol’s successful appeal for these weapons on a visit to the LBJ ranch.

Israel won the 1967 war, and Johnson worked to make sure it also won the peace. “I sure as hell want to be careful and not run out on little Israel,” Johnson said in a March 1968 conversation with his ambassador to the United Nations, Arthur Goldberg, according to White House tapes recently released.

Soon after the 1967 war, Soviet premier Aleksei Kosygin asked Johnson at the Glassboro Summit why the US supported Israel when there were 80 million Arabs and only three million Israelis. “Because it is right,” responded the straight-shooting Texan.

The crafting of UN Resolution 242 in November 1967 was done under Johnson’s scrutiny. The call for “secure and recognized boundaries” was critical. The American and British drafters of the resolution opposed Israel returning all the territories captured in the war. In September 1968, Johnson explained, “We are not the ones to say where other nations should draw lines between them that will assure each the greatest security. It is clear, however, that a return to the situation of 4 June 1967 will not bring peace. There must be secure and there must be recognized borders. Some such lines must be agreed to by the neighbors involved.”

Goldberg later noted, “Resolution 242 in no way refers to Jerusalem, and this omission was deliberate.” This historic diplomacy was conducted under Johnson’s stewardship, as Goldberg related in oral history to the Johnson Library. “I must say for Johnson,” Goldberg stated, that “he gave me great personal support.”

Robert David Johnson, a professor of history at Brooklyn College, recently wrote in The New York Sun, “Johnson’s policies stemmed more from personal concerns – his friendship with leading Zionists, his belief that America had a moral obligation to bolster Israeli security and his conception of Israel as a frontier land much like his home state of Texas.
