Re: Marines; Pres.Trump; good constituent work
Dear Congressman:
USMC. First, a big Semper Fi. I am delighted to see another Marine with political power, not just taking orders but shaping them. I was in the Reserve 1977-80 while at Georgetown University, with three meritorious promotions in a row, but opted out of a Marine Corps officer career for the same reason my father left after the Korean “Police Action”: 1) politically correct Pentagon civilians selling out the troops (I totally support Trump on the transgender ban), and 2) Washington DC’s no-win but enrichen-Wall Street wars. (See Smedley Butler’s War is a Racket.)
My father, James, fought at Tinian and Saipan in WWII, then at Iwo Jima. He stayed in the Reserve after that, went to college on the GI Bill, then entered OCS for Korea in 1952-53, making captain in one year because 50% of his OCS class and superiors were killed or wounded…. and yet, thanks to Truman, the North Koreans are still in power.
Dad said the Chinese were angels compared to the North Koreans, and needed to see a Navy psychiatrist for six months for recurring nightmares and insomnia, tough as he was.
He also predicted to me clearly in 1964 that Vietnam would be the next no-win war, and in 2003 that Iraq would also end up as a no-winner.
He would always quote General Douglas Macarthur (arrogant as he was): “You cannot win a land war in Asia.” Was he wrong?
Btw, I raised two lovely daughters with my wife on East Monroe Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia, and know well the baseball diamond where the Bernie Sanders nut shot Congressman Scalise and severely wounded others. I was relieved that you were okay.

Also, I actually grew up in over in Rhode Island, and know Quonset well, where you were once stationed. My father fought hard, but in vain, to get President Ford to reverse his decision to close Quonset during the post-Vietnam base reductions. I met Ronald Reagan at a Republican event thereabouts in 1976.
TRUMP. I was a Trump supporter from Day One, Congressman, because I see him as NOT an Establishment player. I am glad he has sh ”canned that “Rancid” Priebus and brought in our fellow jarhead, General Kelley, from DHS, to be WH Chief of Staff.
The UP and America needs jobs, Sir, as Trump grasps, not sanctions on Russia, a potential ally, and kissing up to our enemy, China, who will never help us on Korea. Do you know the UP is importing PAPER from China??? Ask Maureen Guzek, chairwoman of the Ontonagon Chamber of Commerce and owner-publisher of the Ontonagon Herald, and a printer! With 39 MILLION acres of woods HERE, we import paper from China.
The UP is “forest-green,” a color we know well, sir, for a reason. 😉
We Americans need J-O-B-S.
This UP area has often gone Democrat, being full of usually liberal-leaning and even unionized Scandinavians, Germans and Finns. My own town of Ontonagon has fallen from a population of 5,000 to 1,400 and is a ghost town with terrible drug problems, heroin and meth…. Every fifth police call, said a friend with a police scanner, is suicide- or suicide-attempt-related.
WE NEED JOBS!
And we need good care for vets. I got a flyer once from your predecessor, Cong. Benishek, stating that the UP had the highest number of vets per capita in the entire United States. This town is full of them. What jobs OTHER THAN MILITARY are out there?
CONSTITUTENT WORK. My dear neighbor, I[], at []., who is a fine immigrant from Germany, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of well-behaved, hard-working Americans, had lots of problems with renewing her via “green card.” She is nearly blind and sick, and just lost her husband, but ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) kept demanding she drive seven hours down to Milwaukee, at the other end of the next state over, to be “asked some questions”! She is 84!
I contacted your Marquette office, and a young assistant there, N[], took the matter seriously, made several calls back to me and to the Milwaukee ICE office, and got her green card renewal session postponed until she is well enough to travel.
I wish to commend him for his actions, which certainly made me and I[]’s whole, big family in the UP appreciate the staff of Congressman Jack Bergman.
I will conclude with this, sir. We both swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign ¦……… and……….. domestic.

I belong to a group called NumbersUSA, which is an immigration watchdog group.
They rate Bergman a D+ on their scorecard, and I believe he is an open-border advocate and pushes the Jewish agenda on wide-open immigration of Third World people.

Legal immigration, I believe, is set at 1 million a year and there is a bill which will cut it in half and I believe Trump is in favor of this. Whether it passes or not is doubtful.

I found the Marines very disappointing racially, just neutral on everything controversial. One would think them all rock-ribbed conservatives, but really their only tribe is the Marine Corps. That is why it is called somewhat jocularly a cult, even by admirers.
