In this amazing hospital city (in super-nice Minnesota), 38 THOUSAND doctors (not one is arrogant or talks down to you!), nurses, PAs, technicians and others work at the cutting edge to fight disease, suffering and the death of people in their prime. The proton-beam unit, one of just 21 in the world, is in its own building, and was built with a $100 MILLION gift from a grateful Mayo patient.

We’re heading for two months (mail being forwarded) to the Mayo Clinic (# 1 worldwide) on Sunday in Rochester, Minn. for Margi’s proton-beam therapy and another, new kind of chemo. Staying at two diff. apartments (free for cancer patients). Any financial help for the big temporary move is so appreciated! We need $300. Dr. Mayo was from England, coming to America in 1847. A tornado flattened Rochester, Minn. in 1884, and he, his two doctor sons, and the Franciscan nuns there were appalled there was no hospital. The Mother Superior said: “Dr. Mayo, if you and your two sons will be the medical staff, my nuns will be the nurses, and WE Franciscans will raise the funds to build the hospital!” And thus the Mayo Clinic was born — of both science and a deeply Christian respect and caring for others in their hour of need. It is the NICEST bunch of top professionals we have ever met. (And I worked with many — stuck-up and cold — Harvard doctors in Boston 1994-2003. “You can always tell a Hahvahd man, but you cannot tell him much.” 😊 )
