On the Duran, somebody made a sly reference to “the Ferengi.” I posted:
Oy, veh, you said “Ferengi”! https://gamerant.com/star-trek-ferengi-anti-semitic-stereotype/
Someone objected this article represented “academic drivel.”
I responded:
Yes, it is indeed written as academic drivel. 🙂 BUT it addresses oh-so-carefully a real issue. Did you ever see an episode with the Ferengi?
It is obvious whom they resemble, and since the producer of “Star Trek” was Jewish, Rick Berman ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Berman) he got away with it, sort-of.
In the same way, the stereotypical old jew in the nursing home with the heavy Yiddish accent is allowed in “The Simpsons,” and the conniving, libidinous Krusty the Clown, who despises his Gentile audience, are allowed in “The Simpsons.”
It seems that only jews are allowed to criticize “the jews,” like blacks who can use the n-word with impunity… all of which, if one reflects, is like a kind of unspoken, subtle expression of dominance: “We can say that, not you.”
