The hidden German-Americans

Spread the love

A bit of trivia down Memory Lane: Hebrewwood pressured the German-American Beckenholdt family to change their name to “Howard,” hence the beloved “Opie” on the “Andy Griffith Show” (later a great movie director also!!) was Ron “Howard,” not “Beckenholdt.”

His actor father was on many shows, including “Gunsmoke.” (In this touching episode, “Jenny,” Rance Howard, the father of Ron, plays the overly stern judge: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0594176/fullcredits)
