You notice at the end of the film all-round mourning. The Germans have lost, their generals and admiral surrender unconditionally in a capitulation scene in Berlin, and the Wehrmacht troops are led off with empty, hopeless eyes into captivity.

And two Russians, front officers who have experienced the terrible “White Tiger” up close, doubt the learning ability of humanity.

The major tries to console Naidyonov at the end of the war: “It’s the end of the war. It’s all over.”

“No. There will be another war like this in 20, 30, 50 or maybe 100 years.”

The two officers rightly interpret the missing, mysterious, German tank, the “White Tiger,” which had neither been destroyed by the Soviets at the end of the war nor had the crew surrendered — but the tank had completely disappeared — as nothing less than a living symbol of the bellicosity of all humanity in its lowest instincts.

And it symbolizes the hatred, the contempt for others, the bizarre view of wars as something “normal”, and the contempt for the right to live of other peoples, and the disregard for their suffering.

You have to read my article here to realize that the words which “Hitler” says by the fireplace do faithfully reflect his thoughts – SORRY. But it is true. And that is why Hitler’s June 22, 1941 “Barbarossa” campaign was not conceived at all as a liberation of the Russians from Bolshevism, but as a Germanic conquest of the Slavs.

That is the only reproach and accusation which the Jews and Allies can make against Hitler, which was actually true and completely correct.

As a former Army Sergeant, Marine corporal, and son of a decorated Marine sergeant and later captain in World War II and the Korean War, I say that war is NOT normal.

Normal is life, breath, eating, going to the toilet,

sleeping, sex, marriage, (and for women the sometimes terrible birth pangs),

then becoming grandparents, aging and graying, becoming wiser (hopefully) and mentoring the youth, and at the end, the dying process and death.

That ‘s “normal”. That is the life cycle.

Nobody is traumatized by such natural processes.

You accept them. “That’s how it is.”

But war carves deep psychological scars into all normal people, even into the toughest guys! Only a psychopath and warmongerer like Churchill is left indifferent by what he has seen and done.
