To a mostly red-pilled Greek who asked sincerely “Why did Hitler attack our little country?”

Spread the love
I was always a lover of Classical Greece and its passion for arété, that is, excellence, a word related to the word “Aryan” and to the Greek word “aristos,” meaning “the best.”
This is part of an article I once wrote for a close friend from Greece, now in America. He is a very successful home remodeler in a wealthy suburban area of greater Washington DC, and used to drive a Porsche SUV.
.
Dealing with many wealthy jewish clients, he began to notice a mindset of supremacism, plus dishonesty and putdowns of his excellent work in order to get a lower price, this from people who were absolutely rolling in money, and this attitude puzzled and disturbed him. (The WASPS were not that way.)
.
He began asking me questions about jewish issues and also:
.

“Why on earth did Hitler attack our little Greece? Was he out to ‘conquer the world’? What would he have done, if he had won, about people who don’t have blond hair? [Hitler wasn’t blond himself…] How about all the Greeks who starved during the war?”

.
I just want to drop this on you: Greece was as important to NS Germany as Ukraine is to Russia. In what way? It was the door to Ploiesti, Romania, the largest oil refinery by far in the German war effort.
.
Without any consultation whatsoever with Hitler, and to his consternation, in 1940 the fascist (NOT “Nazi”) Mussolini launched an unprovoked invasion of Greece, seeking military glory. (Hitler was actually very hellenophilic, and once said to a high Waffen-SS  officer from Belgium, Léon Degrelle, when he asked him if he saw himself more as a European or as a German,
.
“Neither. I am a Hellene.”
.
The Germans, in fact, were always hellenophiles and romanophobes, actually. A professor wrote a hostile book once called “The Tyranny of Greece over Germany,” saying Paris, London and Washington were romanophilic, but Berlin hellenophilic.)
.
Rome and Germany were fierce enemies for 500 years.
.
The first emperor, Augustus, finally gave up trying to conquer the Germans, and built a wall to keep the Germans out, called the Limites.
.
The Emperor Hadrian also built a wall for the same reason against the Scots — they too were unconquerable.
.
.
Anyway, the Italian Army, which was placed under the command of the king, and never under PM Mussolini (!!!), and was full of anti-fascist officers, as usual gave a lukewarm and half-hearted performance, and so the brave Greeks began clobbering them.
.
The Greek government, previously neutral and with many rightwing Greeks, including the prime minIster, Metaxas, actually liking NS Germany, which in turn liked the Greeks, then invited the British in to support their resistance to the Italian invasion.
.

Wikipedia:

“Metaxas initiated a self-coup and established an authoritarian, nationalist and anti-communist regime. Metaxas attempted to maintain Greek neutrality early in the Second World War. On 28 October 1940, Metaxas rejected an ultimatum imposed by the Italians to surrender, committing Greece to the Allies and bringing the country into the war.”

.
HERE THE MORTAL THREAT TO GERMANY COMES IN: Immediately, the British began occupying and expanding Greek airports to become airbases for BOMBING PLOIESTI up in Romania.
.
So Germany ABSOLUTELY HAD to invade Greece to shut down the BRITISH air bases designated for SENDING BOMBERS to destroy the critical German OIL REFINERY AT PLOIESTI.
.
Hitler had not even zero desire to attack or conquer Greece at any time.
.
His main foreign-policy goal was to smash the Soviet Union and take agricultural lands. But his anti-slavic attitudes — common to most Germans then and now, but also to many WASPS and also East Asians — again, then just as now !!!! — seeing Slavs as “mostly white trash, thieves and indolent drunkards” — this mindset was Hitler’s undoing.
.
But had he come as a genuine liberator from communism to that bolshevik-terrorized land, and one where very many hated NKVD commissars were jews, he could have won the war, had it been a war of true liberation, in three months.

World War II[edit]

Columbia Aquila refinery burning after the raid of B-24 Liberator bombers, Operation Tidal Wave, in 1943

Although badly damaged after the November 1940 earthquake, the city [pop. 107,000] functioned as a significant1 source of oil for Nazi Germany during much of World War II.

The Allies made Ploiești a target of the oil campaign of World War II and bombed it repeatedly,[11] such as during the HALPRO (Halverson Project, June 1942) and Operation Tidal Wave (1 August 1943) at a great loss, without producing any significant delay in operation or production. Soviet Red Army troops captured Ploiești on 24 August 1944.

Mussolini was an incredible, over-the-top narcissist, and in fact was the model of the strutting High Priest in Mel Gibson’s magnificent “Apocalypto.”

It was both wicked and also STUPID to attack a white, Christian, European, and small country like Greece that everyone basically liked. Having to rescue the Italians and fight the Greeks was one huge reason why the German invasion of Soviet Russia failed.

Major panzer forces and elite Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS units were diverted to Hellas when the one and only target of NS policy was the menace of the Soviet Union.

Talk about unforeseen consequences — Greece’s brave and totally justified resistance to the moral moron Mussolini led to the German defeat on the eastern front, thence to the Soviet takeover of half of Europe, the Greek Civil War, the worldwide spread of communism, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, and to generations of people living in penurious slavery and despair.
.
All because of Mussolini’s vainglorious ego! As Hardy would say to Laurel, Hitler said to Mussolini: “A fine mess you’ve gotten us into now!” 😉

  1. You sure do know a lot literally about everything. All your articles have an off-the-cuff feel, like you are just speaking from memory.

    That is pretty amazing. 🙂
