This is about how something needed, but a mere tool, takes over.
…..Spiritual reading for August 1
Peace is the key. Cultivate it in your life in a variety of ways. We are referring, of course, to the state of inner peace that is easiest to find when you let go of the activity and identification and thoughts that create your outer world.
We are talking about a breath and then perhaps another where you are at one and free from the tangles of your daily life and the personality which has built it so skillfully.
Because peace and the capacity to access it, to find the place within you where you can sink into it, are possibly the most important survival skills you can have, we encourage you to do all you are able to take
advantage of this today.
There will be challenges, in all likelihood, opportunities to remember to practice peace, occurrences that remind you to take refuge there. There will be things that arise (and dissolve) that will jar you, that will call up defensiveness, anger, pain and guilt, all of which undermine peace. And each time you notice yourself experiencing something other than peace, you have the choice to change that.
You know about this. Maybe you have practices and techniques that enable you to find your center, to be in that quiet and perfect place. We are not here to make the path, but to remind you to walk it. If you keep your focus today on building your relationship with peace, it will be a day very well used.
You might wish to spend some time in contemplation of peace and your relationship to it. How it has come and gone in your life, where it has been most profound and where it has been most absent. You might want to take some time to sit at the feet of some of the greatest teachers anywhere on the subject of peace: the trees.
You may want to intentionally bring the energy of peace to potentially incongruous activities like dancing or sweeping or planning for the future. In short, keep the peace with you, like a special stone in your pocket and bring it out whenever your fingers fnd it. Try it in situations that are
new. Experiment with it. Play with it.
Do not try to make anyone else’s peace, nor attempt to create the semblance of peace. This is not the point. There is friction from time to time. People hurt one another and themselves. Things go wrong.
The goal in this moment, though, is to find the breath that never ends within yourself, regardless of what transpires around you. Be in nature as you can, for although there is evidence of difficulty and suffering there (as there is everywhere) you will also find abiding and eternal peace arrayed before your eyes.
This will be good to soak in. Storms are weathered and beauty never ends.
We send all our love and many blessings.
